Description
12
note polyphonic, multi-purpose physical modelling synth.
CPU Usage
- this is quite complex so CPU usage is high - sorry..
Instructions
To install simply
unzip (unrar) and copy the dll to your VSTI plugins folder.
More detailed instructions will be posted soon but until then here are explanations of the less obvious controls -
- Thicken - the impulse contains a tuned component which can be significantly detuned to create new harmonics or enharmonic effects
- - Scale + - the scaling (how the pitch tracks the note played) of both the impulse and the resonator can be changed to create untuned or enharmonic instruments
- Reference Tone - changing Thicken or Scaling may affect tuning so a reference tone can be switched on for tuning the instrument
- (ADSR) Filter - this sends the envelope output to the cutoff value in the filter/resonator
- Bend 1 and Bend 2 - control the pitch bend range for the impulse and the resonator respectively
- Presence - this is how loud the resonant body is in the instrument output
- Body Size, X, Y and Z - the resonant body is a simple model acting either as an instruments body, a sounding board or a space the instrument is found in, it's shape and size can be adjusted using these controls
- Ring - controls the resonance/feedback of the resonant body, at a low value sounds are mellow and warm, at high values the sound has a metallic quality
- Pulse Repeat - this is used to create sounds of repeated plucking such as those of a mandolin or repeating bowing or chiffing
- Length and Speed - control the basic length and speed of each impulse when using pulse repeat
- Vary Speed and - Vary + - used to modulate the speed of the pulse repeat for a more natural effect
- Velocity - how much key velocity affects amplitude
- (play controls) Filter - how much key velocity affects cutoff
- (play controls) Attack - how much key velocity affects attack (harder = shorter).
Tips
- high Q and 'Ring' values may introduce distortion, which may be desirable, but keep an eye on levels
- there are known problems with SE synths and the creative ASIO driver when working in Orion, so please be aware of these
- the method of synthesis used means that this synth is CPU intensive so if you wish to use multiple instances but have problems with CPU overload, try rendering out each instance to an audio file when finalising a track and muting instances that are not being worked on while creating a track
- it may be called string thing but this synth really can do more than just plucked and bowed strings, try adjusting scaling and thickness values to produce enharmonic effects or using the pulse repeat and LFOs to create moving pad sounds - just watch those levels.
